Now what do I do?

.

I saw a quote that struck me as really funny. But, it is not exactly family friendly. I mean I don't even want to put it in secret message format.

Wait!!! I know.
I'll tell Sharon.
Maybe she'll post
it as a comment?
NOT!!!
maybe that's not such a good idea after all

I've been searching for two weeks

.

If you been following this blog for any length of time you are aware that food is one of my favorite topics and that bacon ranks right neat the top of the list of favorite foods. I will qualify that further by saying that bacon is not at the top of the list of things I eat more than about once a month. Talk's cheap, bacon isn't.
A few weeks ago on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ins and Dives they showed a recipe for meatloaf wrapped in bacon. I searched all over their site looking for a picture. Somehow it never occurred to me that I might find one elsewhere on the net. Once I expanded my search there were plenty of pictures... just none that looked as good as what I saw on television.

It looks better on TV.
This is a different
recipe anyway

I started to cull. Then decided that required too much work... and thought... so I just cut and pasted. (That's even easier than texting!!!)

"There's another weather system due Friday"

.
Today is Saturday... I think?
Anyway, it appears that our... notice how I am taking ownership, or is it responsibility... weather system is, just like the Amtrak trains that run through the valley, late. In fact there are just a few clouds, which only portend a storm.
It may be a good thing that it is delayed. That gives the ground even more opportunity to dry out. The last thing we need is runoff.

Yeah , the weather
...and everything else
...is my responsibility

Bad!!!

.
I saw a photo on another blog that at first glance seemed to show a butt crack.
Upon further investigation, it was found to be a belt loop.
No, I will not post a link to the photo.

Has anyone noticed any
hiccups on blogger over
the last couple of days?
.

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Wow!!!

.
I went out this morning to run some errands and to fill the tank in the car. The first thing I noticed was that each of the mountains surrounding our end of the valley was covered in snow. It is a particularly beautiful scene. What makes it even more beautiful is that none of that snow is anywhere near my house so I don't have to walk in it, shovel it or drive through it.

There's another weather system due Friday

We're on the way out

We have a meeting to attend regarding the local Lions District Convention. Maybe I can find something to complain about?
and maybe not

How does one title something like this?

.
Things I'd never have seen if I didn't surf:
  • The Checkout Girl wrote a post that reminded me of a joke I can't repeat here. I have heard two versions. One about is about fish and chips, the other about ice cream.
  • Mr Barry and Mr Brewer each posted about the British and French nuclear submarines that collided at sea. One lamented that with all of that ocean available to them, why were they both in the same place. What little I know of submarine warfare tells me that one was probably trying to track the other because he didn't know they were from an allied country. Heck, there are times when some U.S. ships aren't made aware that they are tracking other U.S. ships
  • Today is Uncle Niles' birthday. So I am once again reminded that he's older'n me!!! He and Mary are in Maui soaking up sunshine and relaxing for all of the rest of us. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it. His link, over to the left somewhere, has been updated a little.
  • I kinda like the name Oscar. [don't ask!!!]
The rain stopped briefly overnight. It is back again today. Some folks are already complaining.

My only complaint is that
the grass in the lawn
will start growing again

Lazy

.
We left Fresno at just before 11:00am yesterday and were on dry pavement until crossing the San Joaquin River into Madera County. If it rains for another 24 minutes it will be 24 hours straight.
I am not complaining, particularly since I saw this video about whiners.

I'm not supposed to complain anyway because this is a negative free zone.

The high point of our trip was the visit with my daughter [the visit with my sis and her family was a close second] and and son-in-law. I may even get around to calling them by name, Catherine and Rick. I'm already looking forward to the next time.

It would have been nice to

Scrambling to pack and still participate in the last of the convention is not my idea of a good time.

Travel weather doesn't look good either.

Aaaaaaugh!

No outdoor activities?

.
I think I said that there weren't any outdoor activities planned for this convention. I forgot about the golf outing because I wasn't going to play.

Let me back up a little for a minute.

California has been a little short on rainfall for about a year now. Sure, we had a little bit during the middle of Dedember, but that's been it until this week.

Anyway, I knew that this current weather was forecast but discounted it as just another maybe. Besides that, I wasn't concerned because all of the events here are indoors so rain won't be a problem, right?

Wrong! I forgot that many of the seminars and today's opening ceremony and business session, while indoors, are across the street and one block over from our hotel.

So it appears that we will get plenty of much needed rain and that yours truly will get a little wet.

Please, Lord, let us have more
of this rain... just not all at once
.

Yep

.
There's free webby here.
I just don't have time to post much because there are too many folks we haven't seen for awhile.

note to fans*

I am up early again this morning... just late posting late.

Relocating from Clovis to Downtown Fresno for convention. We'll see if the "upscale" hotel with the fancy room rates provides free interweb.

Update

.
There's free interweb here in Clovis!!!
The weather improved almost immediately... meaning that it stopped raining... once we were over the hill into Cottonwood [all of two miles]. Once we were about 100 miles or so South even the headwind kinda died down.

I wish I'd had a camera
at the rest area in Turlock
.

We're away

.
Gone South.
It particularly ticks me off that, except for December when we went North for the birthdays and now that we're headed south for convention, the weather has remained quite mild. But now here we are planning a long drive so ol Mother Nature dumps one of those Pacific Storms on us. My gripe isn't about the weather so much as it is about the timing. Heaven knows we need the rain here and the snow in the mountains.
Fortunately there are no outdoor activities planned.
Maybe we will be better served on our return next Monday.

Why haven't we seen this one Fail?

.
.

Why he was late for work

.

Give this a listen when you have a few minutes.

glad someone found it funny
.

False Alarm

.
The rain only lasted about an hour. Now it is just windy
The forecasters say we may have tome more precipitation.

I bet the politicians have
something to do with this

.

If the rain hadn't started

.

So we are finally getting a little more rain... we need a lot more.

A little while ago I heard a helicopter and what sounded like 30 police sirens nearby. That really piqued my curiosity so I looked out the windo. All I could see is the fence, that's about five feet away, the clouds and some trees. Not that I really expected to see much more. I did wish that I had a scanner to hear what was going on. Then I remembered that some news reporting agencies do have scanners. So on the off chance that someone else knew what was going on I surfed on over to the local daily.
Here is what I found. Chances are there will be further updates, but it's quiet out there now.

Update:
Photos on the website appear to show that the suspect was going to the ATM.

Cecil's gonna be sorry
he's missing all of the fun.

Golf Story

.
Some of you are aware that I occasionally traverse the links pursuing the dimpled pellet. All that I will say about my game is that there isn't much danger of shooting my age unless it is over a nine hole course.
Enough!!! Let's get on with the story.

Lloyd was teeing off from the back tees. On his down-swing, he suddenly realized that his wife, Jean, was about to tee off from the red tees, directly in his path. Unable to stop his down swing he nailed the ball, hit Jean directly in the right temple, killing her instantly.

A few days later Lloyd received a call from the coroner concerning her autopsy. 'Lloyd, your wife seems to have died from blunt force trauma to the head. You said you hit a golf ball and struck her in the temple. Is that correct?'

'Yes sir,' Lloyd replied, 'that's correct.'

'Well, Lloyd, I also found a large bruise on Jean's right hip. Do you know anything about that?'

'Yes sir,' Lloyd said, 'That would have been my mulligan.'

Aren't you glad sorry I check my email?

Found another blog

.
Actually it was served up.
There's this Englishman from the southern part of England who has been posting since 2006. The only catch is he doesn't post from England. He posts from Mexico City. Well most of the time he posts from Mexico City. Right now he's back home in Dorset. That means he is almost a neighbor of the Brighton Pensioner. The poor fellow arrived home just in time for the big snow.
I haven't determined if his blog will take up permanent residence in the left-hand column but I will be following The Mexile for awhile.

What?
.

It has been corrected

The Blogs of Note posting has been corrected...

I just knew everyone would want one

.
The hat has made headlines again. It seems that The Smithsonian was to put it on display.

I heard it Saturday, but
couldn't get to someplace to post
...and just now remembered :-P

I had to post this

.
I just checked for the current blog on "Blogs of Note" and got a little chuckle.
My understanding of French in relatively nonexistent, but when I saw this in the listing I knew it had to be wrong:
La Petite Fella de la Mer
(should be - La Petite Fille de la Mer)

Humor is where one finds it

.

Another thing

So I checked my inbox and the blogs I usually check and found that the world got by without my input just fine.

I hate it when that happens

.

...and now I am back

We made it back home without a hitch.
I mentioned elsewhere that we were headed to Lions meetings over the last weekend.
All went well. It was good to see old friends and acquaintances... and to stir the pot a little. It was even better to get home, turn on the TV and watch the Super Bowl.

It just occurred to me. The NFL could really do a great service to us by Having the game before Christmas. Then the pre-holiday hype period would be shorter.

what do ya think?
I really could have cared less about the game
