I can't remember

.
I was going to post something unique and profound [you know... like I usually do] but I forgot what it was. I was totally distracted because someone somewhere out in the ether decided to upgrade, update and download so now my browser no longer saves some of the settings and passwords I had.
It's really irritating. Everything was going along just fine the way it was until some clown decided to fix whatever wasn't broken. Now it doesn't work for me.
no, it wasn't
Bill Gates' company

I had a thought

.
I'm not saying it's a good one.
I figured maybe I would boycott this blog until blogger starts showing that it is updated.
Then it dawned on me
that that would be a
self-fulfilling kind of thing

It rained yesterday

.
It was one of those hit and run things here in the valley. The Mountains got hammered
The skies cleared overnight.

Consequently we had a different visitor this morning.
So I stopped by the park.

This is shooting directly at the Sun

Along the river bank

The Sacramento River seems so quiet and serene.

now I guess I
will have to
go back

Another niece sent this to my sister, who...

.
Until a child tells you what they are thinking, we can't even begin to imagine how their mind is working....

Little Zachary was doing very badly in math.
His parents had tried everything...tutors, mentors, flash cards, special learning centers.
In short, everything they could think of to help his math.
Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Zachary down and enrolled him In the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Zachary came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn't even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying.
Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Zachary was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner.
To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before.
This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference.
Finally, little Zachary brought home his report Card. He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, His Mom looked at it and to her great surprise, Little Zachary got an 'A' in math... She could no longer hold her curiosity.. She went to his room and said, 'Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?' Little Zachary looked at her and shook his head, no.. 'Well, then,' she replied, Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? WHAT WAS IT?'
Little Zachary looked at her and said, 'Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren't fooling around.'
Thanks Jan and Bekah

When left to my devices, I come up with things like:
An Irishman walked out of a bar.
It could happen?
thanks Sharon

Can you believe that?

.
My good friend has accused me of nefarious motives.
I mentioned, in one of my [not so] secret messages, that I missed the old Banterboard. I should mention that it was a bulletin board frequented by a number of individuals with at least some similar interests. It was hosted by an individual in Birmingham, England, but had developed from a series of bulletin boards in the Los Angeles area. Basically what would happen is that someone would get angry at the hosts and then start their own board or the host would get angry and take their board down. Isn't that kind of like having a blog that nobody can access without an invitation? Anyway it was through these bulletin boards that I have met several good friends, including the above mentioned accuser.
The folks that posted were from all over the world (Finland, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, the British Isles and all parts of the USA, even Nebraska). Just about every day someone would post a query or a comment, then there would be a serious response or two and then the thread would deteriorate into some conversation that had absolutely no relevance to the original post. Sometimes the threads would go on and on, even splitting into separate conversations, which became virtually impossible to keep track of. On top of that they took up much space on servers and drove the administrators nuts.
About the accusation: the Brighton Pensioner actually accused me of missing the board because I miss being rude to the Oldham Primate. That is not the case. And, no, I don't want to be rude to Knet either. I just miss the simplicity.
Kent & Alan should
have blogs, too

then I could be rude in the comments

Enlightenment

.
I think maybe I have found a partial explanation here, unless, of course, it is acquired by osmosis. Then that explains everything.
feel free to ask for further
enlightenment if necessary

We may visit this subject again

That is my answer... for now

sunk indeed

I really miss the 'old' banterboard

Lists

.
I have mentioned my niece before. I'm sorry if I make it sound like she's my only niece because she's actually one one of many. It's just that she blogs and we all know that bloggers are the really interesting folk... huh? I guess I could carry that a step further and say that the more blogs one has, the more interesting they are. But that would be self-serving and the Brighton Pensioner would still be more interesting.
So... where was I.
Oh yeah... lists. the other day she posted that she loved lists. Here's mine:
Things that I found on other blogs that made me laugh at the time but may not be funny out of context -
  1. One-time-use disposable cats.
  2. There are 10 types of people-- those who understand binary, and those who don't.
any more than two items
would require more effort than
I am prepared to expend

Today it's...

.
...either the mouse or the processor that's acting up. I think? Maybe it's the darn O/S. I know just enough about computers and the techy stuff to be dangerous. I learned electronics in the '60s, the earliest '60s, back when vacuum tubes had yet to be replaced by transistors and computers were analog or huge.
Anyhow, I learned it only so that I could understand the theory behind the equipment that I operated for the Navy. You know how that works? They spent thousands of bucks and lots of time teaching us about the equipment and then sent us out to the fleet to learn how to use it.

Right now the right click on the mouse is reluctant to function in a manner to which I have become accustomed. Oh, wait. Left click is just as bad. Let's add wireless functionality to the possibilities as to why there are difficulties.
it can't possibly
be the operator

I hate it when that happens

.
So yesterday I stepped outside of my comfort zone and wrote, what for me, is a long post. This morning (like just now) I actually reread it and found a little error.
Perhaps I should explain that I periodically have problems with the wireless keyboard not always sending the signal to the processor. Compound that with the issues I have with my left hand not being totally compos mentis and then I don't proofread. Well, part of what I wrote said exactly the opposite of what I meant because somehow the word do was inserted where I meant don't.
I have now corrected that error.

I also asked if I was trying to do too much and promptly forgot what it was I was trying to do. Now I remember. The answer is in the post. I post almost every day... not necessarily complete thoughts or rational ideas, but something... on two blogs. It's probably just to clean out the crap that accumulates between my ears.

What is it that I do?

.
Mostly I read other people's blogs.
It's all my niece's fault. I started out just looking at her blog about once a week. She posted about things that happened during her day and did it in a manner that made it interesting... at least to me.
Then there were those links on her blog to other blogs. I thought to myself, "I can do that." I had already been posting on bulletin boards for several years. Sure most of what I posted was off the wall. It did come with the warning, 'he said WHTPFIHC.' Hence the current name for this blog.
No, that hasn't always been what it was called. I first started it when I was having my back surgery. I felt that it was a good way to keep everyone posted on my progress. I called it Skippylog because I have no imagination... well, I do but we probably don't want to go there.
The updating lasted somewhere around a week and I got bored talking writing about me. Who cares how many days it's been since the last cigarette or that the pain meds were a waste of money because they aren't needed?
So anyway, I got a little off-track... okay, it's a character defect, alright? I started posting about whatever struck my fancy at the moment. There was a lot of stuff with bacon so I renamed this blog and started another that is supposed to be "more serious." Neither blog has much in the way of long posts. My short attention span is another defect...... or maybe the same one with an alias. In any event I have pretty much tried to get whatever the message is across in as few words as possible. I say "because if you don't, you'll lose your audience." But just maybe it's because I'm lazy and don't want to spend the time developing the topic? Ooh! Another character trait.
So, I read other people's blogs. I see these well developed topics on blogs that I really enjoy reading. The one thing that really stands out about those other bloggers [with one exception] is that most post only once or twice a week. Some post even less than that.
Now I have a question. Am I trying to do too much?
it's a rhetorical question,
but you may answer

I need an easy button

.
So I went to the dentist this morning so she could see how well I was progressing. She suggested that I might want to consider having implants to anchor the lower prosthesis.
It was almost like buying a new care from a dealer. I was referred to a periodontist... because implants are a specialized talent I guess... in Redding, who could see me almost immediately. He and two different assistants gave me the ins and outs and financial ramifications. We're talking all kinds of bells and whistles. It ended up finishing the rest of the morning. I found out that before anything further can be done, though, that I needed to have a CT scan of my upper and lower jaw. Wonder of wonders the Dentist with the equipment for that could see me this afternoon.
So what normally would have taken about 15 minutes ended up being an all day affair and two different dentists can afford to take their families to dinner.
I love doing my
part for the economy

I go back to the dentist again in the morning for another checkup.

I don't think I said never

A couple of years ago Sharon and I marched (marched?) in the parade at the Lions Clubs International Convention in Chicago. It was probably right afterward that we said something about not participating in any more parades. I don't know why it looks like we are enjoying ourselves in the picture. Maybe it's because we saw someone we know?

Anyhow, the subject comes up because this morning I actually got up early to drive up to Shasta Lake (the city) to participate in the Veterans Parade sponsored by the Lions Club there. Notice I didn't say march... whatever it was we did can be no way confused with marching. Those of us who went were there to carry the 30'x50' American flag that led off the parade. Then when we were done with that, many of us hurried back to the starting point to ride on the sponsor's float at the end of the parade. We had a great time and pretty well decided that it's worth repeating if asked.

might even go early
for the pancake
breakfast next time

15 Recordings: no choices

That's correct, 0 [zero] choices.
I must be a musical anarchist. My musical training began... and ended... during the fifth grade at Willow Elementary School. I mention the school because I had a schoolmate who eventually made a name for himself designing neckties. He played a little music too. That, however, was sometime after Willow School.
Anyway, a large group of adults determined that I really needn't learn to play the trumpet after there was no improvement over a period of about six months.
Now, you may ask why I have no choices. My answer is that I do have choices. But my choices are artists, not recordings. I suppose that if I'd paid especially close attention, I might have some specific recordings that I could choose, but the only recording that even comes to mind at the moment is the Clancy Brothers - In Person at Carnegie Hall. They're not even my favorite Irish folk artists. One of my Hungarian brothers-in-law fills that role. Without ever leaving Ireland we can add the Chieftains, James Galway and U2 to my list: Ray Charles, Al Hirt, Kenny G, Oliver Nelson, Jimmy Smith, The Boston Pops, almost any symphony orchestra, The Swingle Singers, B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Buddy Holly, Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Linda Ronstadt, Stan Getz, Boots Randolf, The and the list goes on. Ah, one other recording I just thought of from Rodney Crowell and Vince Gill recording as the Notorious Cherry Bombs. Just click here.

...and on and on

I can't remember

Major League Baseball used to end the season in mid-September, right?

BTW...

I went back to the dentist yesterday. She decided that I'm not a complainer.
obviously there's something she has missed

540

AGB, you ought to be ashamed

Does anyone realize just how many people are out of work because of Alexander Graham Bell?
Well, think about it. Millions of jobs have been sent overseas because folks who will work for lower wages can answer a telephone and talk a customer through how to fix something. Who takes anything in to be repaired locally any more? Heck, it's darn near impossible to find a repair shop. When we do, we find that it's cheaper to replace than to repair.
so, Al, you have a lot to answer for

Monday, November 2, 2009

uh, huh... how's that workin' for ya?

@
I just read a post on another blog where the blogger was having one of those just wait moments [At least I hope it's only temporary].
The gist of the post was that the blogger was looking forward to the day when they were independent such that they could dump all over their current employer. Yeah, well hang onto that resentment long enough and any of those who might employed sometime in the future just might have the same kind of feelings about the blogger. If the job is really that untenable, it would probably be best for all concerned if they left the job now,.
A wise person once said that keeping a resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.

just sayin'

@

Just because I can

I have no ideas for posts as yet and I am in no way enticed into participating in NaNoWriMo. Heck! I had trouble filling a blue book in college exams. In fact I really don't care to answer questions that require a complete sentence, let alone a complete thought.
Okay, so where is this leading? Another blogger, whose site I have frequented lately, has let it slip that a mere mention of his blog sets him off in paroxysms of... well he never quite said what, so use your imagination.
Well, I thought I would make this really post to pique your curiosity as to who this blogger might be, tell you how well he writes, how funny he can be and then not mention his name or leave a link to his blog. Then I was going to go over to his blog and tell him how much I had pimped his blog because of how much of a "crack ho of a blogger" he says he is.
Then I thought better of it and decided that if you had read this far you should at least be able to choose if you want to read Suldog or not.

Geez!!!
It is absolutely amazing
how much space can
be taken up when
there's nothing to say

There's no justice

I worked the community breakfast this morning at the senior center. At the end I realized that there really wasn't anything on the menu that I could eat except biscuits and gravy, sans the biscuits.
Anyone who knows me also knows how much I care for gravy.
Speaking of which, the other day the dentist suggested that I could have mashed potatoes and gravy. I like mashed... or almost any potatoes... almost as much as I like gravy.
Now if you rename it chili or something else along those lines, it might be a different story.

I think I'm becoming
fixated on eating

.
