Another untitled post

Maybe it isn't the Muse.
It may just be that I have more things to occupy my time?
Maybe it's because I just don't spend that much time at home?

I mean I'm still at home a lot, just not sitting in front the pc.
TV viewing has been reduced to almost nil.
We might watch something on Netflix occasionally, or a ballgame.
But, whereas two years ago the tube was on most evenings, now it can go weeks without being switched on.

The past two weeks we've been home four days.
We are aiming for a trifecta by leaving again on Wednesday for almost a full week.
I supposed I could write about that stuff, but, other than the pirates*, there really isn't much of interest.

You could go back and reread some earlier posts.
They'll tell you pretty much what we've been up to.

The next trip covers more distance [to Milwaukee] and allows for a little more freelancing [meaning we will have to amuse ourselves], it will probably be a little more relaxing, as well.

. . . and a parrot, too
 aaaargh!

Now, where's my socks?

Day one of the second convention in two weeks.
Also known as road trip two of three.

The brief respite between conventions was nice, but there were a multitude of activities that took place besides getting ready to go again.
MB had to work Monday, Tuesday, and part of Wednesday.
The four local grandkids stayed the night on Monday.
Tuesday we finished up the laundry, repacked, and hosted friends and neighbors for bunco, which meant borrowing and retrieving chairs and card tables.

Packing was the chore that was shortchanged this time.
socks are a metaphor.
you figure it out

Curious

Whilst perusing the stats for this blog I see that there've been three page views for this post on November 8, 2014.

I wonder, sometimes, just what it is that draws someone to an old post?
maybe it's the picture

. . . and today!

We're getting ready to head north for another Lions district convention . . .   and a few other odds 'n ends.
But first . . .   we're hosting bunco here ar the house tonight.
In the meantime we discovered an issue with the refrigerator, a major issue.
It's stopped working.
So we went refrigerator shopping earlier this afternoon.
The soonest the new one can be delivered is Friday.
We can do that because we're going to be back in town for a funeral.
We'd probably come back for the new fridge, too, but that wouldn't be as imperative as saying goodbye to a friend.
Now to mow the front lawn.

Quickly . . .

Visited the eye clinic this morning for some measurements in preparation for cataract procedure.
Turns out the technician had lived in Anderson some years back.
It's really nice when there's a topic you have in common you can talk about.
the procedure is in July

I opened an email at 12:15 AM

Finding a woman sobbing that she had locked her keys in her car,
a passing soldier assures her that he can help.
She looks on amazed as he removes his trousers,
rolls them into a tight ball and rubs them against the car door.
...
Magically it opens.
"That's so clever," the woman gasps. "How did you do it?"
"Easy," replies the man.

This is exactly how it appeared in my inbox.
It's what happens when the muse goes AWOL.

Wunnerful, wunnerful

MB and I are really enjoying ourselves at the Lions convention.
I only wish there was time to write something.
Tomorrow doesn't look much better . . .   and Monday it's back to the eye doctor [well, her office, anyway].
the muse isn't helping

It's . . . ?

I knew I'd get back eventually.
I didn't think it would take this long.

Today we leave for the first of two conventions in two weeks.
Gluttons, we are.

I mentioned interruptions yesterday.
I had an appointment with the Ophthalmologist [thank you auto-correct].
It had been "highly recommended" I have a driver because the eyes would be dilated.
It was also mentioned that the staff were not the "parking lot police."
I opted for a driver   . . . and a second set of ears, just in case I missed something or there might be a question I would forget to ask [gotta cover all of the bases   . . . I'd forget to ask the question I would be asked when I get home].

So the scenario is this.
I get to have cataract surgery on my left eye in July.
That's about the earliest it can be scheduled.
I'm ready to have it done now.
The right eye isn't bad enough to be a candidate . . .   yet!
A year ago neither eye was a candidate.

Anyway, we're on the road in a few moments.
I may or may not be able to regale you with tales from the convention site.
or not

Yesterday

Was a get ready to get ready to go day.
It was also an unsettled weather day.
We had three separate episodes of heavy precipitation accompanied by wind.

We've spent the past few days collecting items needed at MB's Lions convention at San Ramon.
I am sure, by the time we're finished accumulating, there will be a little room in the care for our own luggage.

This preparation, of course, cannot go along without interruption . . .
to be continued

Pickings may be a little slim in the following couple of weeks.

As most of you are aware, MB and I are active members of Lions Clubs.
This week her club's district convention starts on Thursday.
She is a delegate to the convention.
She is also in charge of Hospitality and the Catering Chair, meaning we shall be busy through next Sunday.
We already have a pretty good stock of supplies for the Hospitality room on Friday and Saturday.
We have to be there on Wednesday for the final arrangements with the hotel.

The following week is my club's district convention.
I have no specific duties at the convention . . .    yet!
But as a Past District Governor, it would be bad form not to show up.
Besides, there are a couple of places I want to go while we are up north.
I guess I should mention the convention is at Anderson this year.
We will be away again from Wednesday on.

The week after that we are flying to Milwaukee.
MB's granddaughter [yeah, and mine] is being confirmed.
We don't miss things like that if we can help it.

Then we'll be home until June.
and we're having fun

Picked up a little trinket yesterday

It felt pretty good.

. . . and about 50 or so people sang "Happy Birthday."
The actual date was April 9.

So I just left it here

The first was in my feed yesterday.
The second one I found while browsing (the link to the side is in the sidebar).
Both, by some stretch of the imagination, relate to Thursday's post.

I'm just a little irritated

This blog doesn't get political very often and doesn't go deep. So don't look for solutions here.

I get around the Interwebs fairly well and fairly often.
I see what folks post about my home state.
A lot of it is negative, deservedly so.
What annoys be about those posts is the presumption on the part of the individual posting that all Californians concur with what goes on in Sacramento.
This one sure doesn't.

I become even more annoyed when the language of those same posters [and the commenters, as well] is more suited to the locker room or even the restroom.
It isn't necessary, particularly when painting with a broad brush.
Territoriality, California is more red than blue.
I would even venture, that if you were to remove the carpetbaggers and their spawn, native Californians are fairly conservative.

I guess what I am asking is: Clean up your language   . . . and rhetoric. Understand there are a lot of people in California who are really frustrated they have to defend themselves both locally and nationally. As Buck would say GOML.
I won't stoop to calling names.
If someone is an S.O.B., I will just say, "I hope his mother bites him when he gets home."
'nuff said

Three weddings and . . .

. . . frog

the title was inspired by two posts over at Sarge's place.
I could write a lot about three weddings, one of which has already been pretty well covered here, but I will save that for another time.
just watch the frog

Weekend turned out okay GREAT!

It didn't bode well last Thursday.
The forecast was for nasty wet through Saturday.
We were slammed on Friday with well over an inch of rain.
That didn't matter much because the northerners had gotten away early and our plans involved being indoors [as in serving a dinner].
It was still raining hard when we got home just before 10pm.

We were concerned about Saturday, though.
The Cancel Out Parkinson's (COP) walk was scheduled.
This is the second year that the Lions Clubs in this region have done this event.
Folks from all over California, and even a few from elsewhere, come to participate.

There was a little rain early.
Then the clouds separated and let the Sun through.
The only downside was the puddles along the walking [or running] route.
The venue was perfect.
Accommodation had even been made to conduct the event under cover (on an indoor soccer field) if necessary.
Of course, this being a Lions event, food was served and t-shirts presented to all who were present.

Sunday's weather was even better.
Better than that, though, after church, MB and I went to Leatherby's, where we had lunch with Li'l Teeny, Big Brother, my daughter and son in law.

. . . the attraction at Leatherby's is not the food [but it's good, too].

These two (and their mom & dad) were the main attraction for me

5844

Days, that is.
16 years.
It's been quite a journey down the Road of Happy Destiny.

Sunday, April 8, 2018

Oh, and then there's this

I hear from PHG regularly.
She has been keep me informed about the weather in Michigan.

She finally has a car.
She has no garage.
This is her care the other morning.

This is out in front of where she works early Friday morning

Meanwhile, in California . . .

. . . we get it first, before it's snow.
thank goodness

Aaah!

There was a brief sigh of relief yesterday.
The population in our house returned to three.
There were no longer lines at the bathroom door or the refrigerator.

That lasted for about a minute.
Tonight is a fundraiser for the Laguna Creek Youth Baseball that the Lions Club is catering.
I volunteered MB and I to prepare beans for 250 guests.
That, of course, meant starting with at least 20lbs of dry beans.
We actually started them on Wednesday when we got home from AT&T Park, where we watched the Giants finally find their bats and score some runs.
Now the final result has been enhanced and is simmering on top of the range.

need a larger range

Still trying

So . . .   what I failed to mention yesterday is that I am trying to post every day.
It's creating the opportunities to sit long enough that's the challenge.
Currently there's family visiting [they're staying here and other members are coming and going].
It's a constant circulation of a cast of thousands fifteen.

The issue mentioned yesterday is a no-brainer.
It's also a schedule routine disrupter; a plan messer-upper.
It will be interesting to see how the scheduler for the procedure(s) can work with plans we have already and who will have to make adjustments.
The issue is waiting to hear from them.
I'm not really the most patient of patients.

I'm trying

It seems like I can, without even trying, fill days with stuff to do.
Last week I went for a simple annual eye exam.
Yesterday was a followup.
Now I find there will be at least three or more further appointments as yet to be determined.

Since this blog was started because of my health, I guess I will continue to inform here.
