Where are we now

 Yesterday’s photo was at Icy Straits Point, Alaska, where bears outnumber the people four to one, and average around 1200 pounds. 

Today we’re at Juneau, Alaska’s state capital. We shared the port with three other cruise ships, all with a lot more than four times as many passengers than ours. We have about 900.

The day started early with a bus ride to Mendenhall Glacier. 

Mendenhall Glacier is only 13 miles from Juneau and accessible by road, which makes it extremely popular. 

Then we caught a boat to to go whale watching. 

We also saw a bear, eagles, and orcas. 

Then we returned to Juneau and documented we were here

 We made our way into Yakutat Bay to view Hubbard Glacier.

It is six miles across it’s face and up to 400 feet tall. 

We waited for one ship to leave, and another waited for us. 

Time flies

 I can’t post much about Valdez, other than it wasn’t here until 1898, and it almost vanished in 1964 during the 9.2 earthquake.

It was foggy when there weren’t low clouds, so we could not see the glacier.

It finally began to clear a little as we were leaving port.

Did I mention August is the rainy season?

 August is the rainy season here.

So we went on a jet boat ride and a hike.

I am hindered

 I find it curious that my iPhone photos are visible but not directly accessible to my iPad. It’s frustrating that I’m required to copy and edit photos before I can share them on this blog. I already am frustrated by what’s been done to this platform. 

A grizzly showed up on the road and walked by about 15’ away.

Denali made an appearance.

We didn’t have to take a selfy.

If ya squint

 Up on the ridge, between two trees in the foreground, there’s a rock formation that, in silhouette, resembles a musher. Sorry for the poor photo, but a critical piece of equipment for transferring i ages from a camera has come up missing. The formation is called the Musher’s Monument. It is at Denali, AK.

Today we head into the park, but our tour will be limited due to a major road issue about 45 miles into the park. Weather may interfere with viewing the mountain.

The plaza in front of the Cheyenne train station is empty only because there are few folks stirring.

Thursday was the first day of Cheyenne's Frontier Days.
