Today is the "Real" Memorial Day
. . . and another thing that too much government has messed with.
I decided to reprise a post from a few years ago.
Then I decided to just post the link.
It's here.
As you're reading you might realize that MB is mentioned in that post.

Sometimes
A post writes itself . . . kinda.
Almost . . .
We had visitors on Saturday at dinner time.
One of these days I will have the phone turned the video is landscape instead of portrait.

It's goofy
No, not Goofy!
The opposite of serious kind of goofy.
It being the weather.
Not so much here as up north.
So goofy that it was scary.
Yeah, like that.
Before I post some pictures, I have to mention, in my experience, there hasn't been an instance that far north.
Also, in my experience, within days there have been serious tornado incidents further to the east where the land flattens out into prairies that go on for miles.
Yeah Tornado Warning, not Tornado Watch.
There was half dollar size hail and golf ball size hail.
It didn't touch down.
Dailytimewaster has his own take on it.
On another note...
It seems he and I have, more or less, traded places . . . mostly less.
We've not met, but I did get a jar of jelly from him once.
ya never know how spring will hit us
but that's normal

Do you want fries with that?
Gotta tell ya about my buddy, Mike.
He's been in and out of the hospital . . . mostly in . . . for the past year.
He lives up north where I used to live.
But the VA hospital is down here, at the former Mather AFB.
Heck!
He's in now.
But at UC Davis Medical Center.
There was a tumor in his head.
It was malignant.
The VA docs removed it.
He had lots of treatments and it's in remission.
He developed an infection.
A really bad one.
So bad they've done surgery twice for it.
I won't go into any details about what they've had to do.
But when the VA refers someone to a major medical facility like UC Davis you know it isn't small potatoes.
He's been referred two different times.
But this is about Mike, not his illness.
He is relatively ambulatory, meaning they let him roam all over the hospital and then some.
There was one instance when they sent out a BOLO because he'd wandered a little too far.
Today was his birthday.
His wife and daughter drove down to surprise him and have lunch.
While they were downstairs at the cafeteria they encountered another couple who were visiting their 14 year old daughter that has cancer.
The couple couldn't get their car to start.
Well that really caught Mike's attention because he likes nothing better than to wrench.
He has a shop in his garage that a lot of guys would die for.
Anyway, this guy said he thought the problem was his fuel pump.
Mike said he'd take a look.
Of course the other guy had to do all the physical stuff because Mike's still attached to all kinds of hospital hoses and wires.
So Mike gives instructions and the other fella follows them.
The relay to the fuel pump was good.
The fuel pump was working.
So the next step was check the fuel filter.
It was a little difficult getting to it because the only tools were for changing a flat tire.
It was a clogged fuel filter.
The guy had initially intended to buy a fuel pump.
Mike saved him a bunch of money and trouble.
But the best part is he got to do, vicariously, what he likes to do.
And he got to do it on his birthday.
Things turned out well for two [or more] people today.
God put them both in the same place at the right time.
The best part is MB and I got to hear this story first hand.

Heh!
An old man is met by his attorney, and is told he is going to be audited. He rides to the IRS office with his attorney, and when he gets there, he begins to talk with the IRS agent. "I bet $2,000 I can bite my own eye!"
The IRS agent agrees to the bet, believing it an impossible task. The old man laughs, pulls out his glass eye, and bites it. The IRS agent is dumbfounded. The old man bets $3,000 he can bite his other eye.
The IRS agent knows there's no way possible to do this, so he once more agrees. The old man cackles, pulls out his dentures, and bites his eye.
Then the old man finally wagers, "I bet $20,000 I can stand on the far side of your desk, pee over the desk, and get it into your wastebasket, without missing a single drop." The agent knows he won't be able to, so once more he agrees. The old man indeed misses, peeing all over the desk, and on the paperwork.
The IRS agent jumps for joy, but then notices the attorney over in the corner moaning. "Are you all right?" asks the agent.
"No! On the way over here, he bet me $400,000 he could pee on your desk and you'd be happy about it!"

GoT, TV shows, videos, and the like
T'other day Sarge was doing his usual, entertaining us.
His latest lament is he's nothing to post because . . . pick a reason.
Then writes eloquently about something of interest for a couple of 'graphs.
He'll add a video or two, and maybe some music.
GoT = Game of Thrones
You either watch it or don't.
I'm in the don't category, but I am pretty familiar with it because I have read the books.
I am also aware that the TV series has moved past where the last book ended.
I may be just a little miffed that Mr. Martin hasn't finished the book series yet.
The television show ends this year.
That's not the only TV show I don't watch.
Since MB and I were married we only turn a television on about once or twice a week, usually for a baseball game.
It used to be more often, but since She Hulk watches about every game the Giants play, we can usually tell how the game's are going by the sounds emanating from her sitting room.
We do watch movies.
MB has a pretty good collection of Disney flicks and musicals, and what she doesn't have seems to be available on Netflix or Amazon.
The local grandkids have been performing in a condensed version of High School Musical.
So to bring me up to speed we watched the movie the other evening after dinner.
The weather has taken another turn here.
The temps are cooler and it's been raining since yesterday morning.
The only thing that gives it away that it is spring is the huge deluges in sporadic mounts.
It's the kind that will wash away a garden in about ten minutes (DAMHIK).
Sarge says he's suffering from ennui.
He suffers it well.
I don't.

Little bits from here and there
'cause it seems we were all over the place last month . . . and this month, too.
It started with a trip to Redding for a convention [don't look forevidence pictures].
Then there was Easter week with a multitude of activities.
Followed by a church regional conference hosted locally, where MB and I found ourselves catering a luncheon and a breakfast.
During the breakfast MB's car was molested.

It was attacked by a rock propelled by a landscaper's string trimmer.
Then the next day we headed for another convention at San Ramon [there are some photos which may see the light of day sometime in the future].
MB's brother and wife visited from Arizona.
They traveled much further, but that's another tale.
When they left they took She Hulk with them for a week so she could attend her great grandson's first birthday celebration.
(By my estimate the birthday celebration was actually about a month and a half long)
While she was away MB and I actually commencedcleaning out making space in the garage.
We also attended a 50 year reunion of the 8th grade class of MB's first husband, my good friend, Gary.
That required a drive to the Bay Area.
So we decided to visit some family members.
At Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, CA
At St John's Cemetery in San Mateo
We also visited MB's in laws at Holy Cross.

What does AH stand for?
A motorcycle police officer stops a driver for shooting through a red light. The driver is a real jerk, steps out of his car and comes striding toward the officer, demanding to know why he is being harassed by the Gestapo!
So the officer calmly tells him of the red light violation.
The motorist instantly goes on a tirade, questioning the officer's ancestry, sexual orientation, etc., in rather explicit offensive terms.
The tirade goes on and on without the officer saying anything. When the officer finishes writing the ticket he puts an "AH" in the lower right corner of the narrative portion of the ticket. He then hands it to The 'violator' for his signature.
The guy signs the ticket angrily and when presented with his copy points to the "AH" and demands to know what it stands for.
The officer says,“That’s so when we go to court, I'll remember that you're an asshole !"
Two months later they're in court. The 'violator' has a bad driving record with a high number of points and is in danger of losing his license, so he has hired a lawyer to represent him.
On the stand the officer testifies to seeing the man run through the red light.
Under cross examination the defense attorney asks; "Officer is this a reasonable facsimile of the ticket that you issued to my client ?"
The officer responds,“Yes, sir, that is the defendant's copy, his signature and mine, same number at the top."
Lawyer: "Officer, is there any particular marking or notation on this ticket you don't normally make ?"
"Yes, sir, in the lower right corner of the narrative there is an "AH," underlined."
"What does the "AH" stand for, officer?"
"Aggressive and hostile, Sir."
"Aggressive and hostile?"
"Yes, Sir.
"Officer, are you sure it doesn't stand for asshole?"
“Well, Sir, you know your client better than I do."
