Old nautical stuff

Some of the following may appear to be rough seas to the uninitiated.
Trust that they are not.
We weren't allowed outside during rough seas.

Main deck, port side looking aft

01 level, forward, starboard side
Highline from USS Boyd
There may be more in the future (POCIR).

Once upon a time*

Just for grins:
Eleven people were dangling below a helicopter on a rope. There were ten Naval Officers and one Chief. Since the rope was not strong enough to hold all the eleven, they decided that one of them had to let go to save all the others. They could not decide who should be the volunteer. Finally the Chief said he would let go of the rope since Chiefs are used to doing everything for the Navy. They forsake their family, don't claim all of their expenses and do a lot of overtime without getting anything in return. When he finished his moving speech all the Naval Officers began to clap…
Moral: Never underestimate the powers of a Chief.
*SJC - Standard Juvat Caveat = A Fairy Tale begins with "Once upon a time" and a War Story begins with "So, there I was"

Almost as good as bacon*?

These gifs are getting to be somewhat ubiquitous.
There's a back story here.
I may have told it once or twice.

I wish they'd fix it

.
This having to surf through the blogosphere because the widget on the side isn't updating to all of the latest posts is really bugging me.
That, and seeing that practically everyone else writes in a much more satisfactory manner than I. I think I have determined what my problem is. I can't hold a thought long enough to develop it. Although I don't Twitter, my mind does. Hence most of my posts are relatively brief...
which may be a good thing?

.

  1. In many cases brevity is good, - - - often better, and most of the time best!

Walking

No, not as in not driving, but as in exercising.
Today was a slightly different experience.
No!
I'll take that back.
It was a lot different from the past two weeks.

For one thing, we took a different trail.
For another, there were five additional people, one adult, and . . .

We covered almost four and a half miles, which is the furthest we've walked.
Also managed to run an errand.

Whatcha been doin' with your free time?

This is becoming a photo blog, huh?
Well, except when it's videos.

MB and I have found ourselves catching things up around here and walking three days a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
It's a regular thing . . .   for the past two weeks, anyway.

The community is blessed with a nature preserve running through it.
The preserve, which includes some very nice parks, has miles of trails and, in many places, is bordered by streets.
We have only taken advantage of a small portion.

Some places the trails are paved

Some are not

There are wildlife, mostly birds

The wildflowers are in bloom

The weather's warming up and the pollen is in the air.

True story

Every now and then . . .

Well, it is my hometown, but I can't be held responsible.

I was telling this story earlier

Big Jim [that's what he calls himself*] posted this on koobecaf.

Craig knows about it.

Home school

This is Mrs. Duckworth
You should really watch this all the way through.

She used to be Ducky . . . because of that thing she does with her lips when she's unhappy about something. No, she isn't married, but Miss Duckworth sounds way too formal.

That's my story

MB took pictures yesterday on our stroll.
I might have had more, except it was as much through residential neighborhoods as through the "Preserve."
Besides, my phone was on low battery when we left the house.
We walked about 3.3 miles.
I didn't set the run keeper for the same reason there's only one photo.
On Monday I set the run keeper, but I forgot to get a screen shot.
I'll get the less important stuff down in due time.
Please be patient.

Noir

We took our walk this morning.
This tree, and another, caught my eye.

There was Sunshine in the early AM, but it got overcast by 8am.
The Black and White suits the overall mood and the state of the tree.

Yep, I might fiddle with it some more.
