Reunion

So . . .  there I was*

It was barely a month since I'd transitioned from the regimentation of the U.S. Navy.
I found myself standing in the Student Union at CSM (College of San Mateo [aka college of small minds]).
I really had no idea what this adventure was all about.
It kinda looked like high school all over again, but there were ashtrays.

Almost suddenly I found myself being greeted by a couple of guys I'd met when I took the English Placement Exam [used to determine at which English class level I was, not how well I spoke the language - btw it was wrong].
They were members of the Veterans Club, about the closest thing to a fraternity one could find on a community college campus.
Little did I know then, that I would still be hanging with some of these guys after all of these years [more than 50, okay?].

Anywho . . .  that's why I'm not here today.
. . . or tomorrow

I was gonna post this elsewhere

. . . and write something original about a reunion I'm attending this weekend.

Why me?

Somebody could have used a little more sleep last night this morning.
That's right.
I didn't even go to bed until almost midnight.
So I was still awake when the new day started.

My furry friend remained inside last night.
That's something he seldom does.
He was one of the reasons I was up late.
It is hard to go to bed when a cat is asleep in ones lap.
He eventually migrated to the floor and I adjourned to the bedroom.

He followed about an hour later, announcing his presence before curling up next to my feet.
At about 4:30 the decision was made that he'd rested enough and it was time to explore the bed.
Then he announced he was hungry.
By 5:30 I realized there would be no more sleeping so I made coffee.

I have now sent texts to everyone I think should be awake.

The weather is supposed to be nice today.
That's good because we had a couple of rainy days and are due for some more.

Now to prep for the college reunion this weekend.
maybe a story or two there

Late again

I'm gonna blame the season.
No, not the one that follows summer.

Football season . . .
I stopped paying much attention to it about  two years ago.
I have found I can almost ignore it now.
The exception is when one local high school freshman has a game.
Even then (which is usually Thursday at 5:30pm) I am slightly conflicted because there are conflicting events [No burritos or tacos are involved].

Anyway, that has removed a major source of blogfodder.

The other source I could draw from is the chaos that started in earnest about two years ago.
There are enough other bloggers and koobecaFers* already beating that horse.
My two cents worth will not do anyone any good.

I could be tempted to become a hermit if I didn't enjoy watching some of the really dumb inane comedy shows on network tv and non-political stuff on PBS.

Fortunately, there are activities to occupy the time I would usually spend watching football and to distract me from the other fray.
don't ask

Monday update

. . . and another thing about catching things up after being away for a day   . . . or more   . . . the furry friend seems to be a little more needy.
Thus, he becomes a little bit of an interference.
It is better when he's just a distraction.

Sebastian's current antics mean that any time there is even what appears to be something like a lap, he wants to occupy it.
That is provided it is not in the car.
That's not to say he won't get in the car.
He just won't do it when someone is in the driver seat.

Another thing he's discovered is that a suitcase means someone is not going to be home.
I don't know if he is guarding it or trying to prevent its use.
Either way he keeps it in sight most of the time.

Anyway, I'll be using every possible excuse to explain erratic blog posting.
uh, almost every

*So, there I was

I could offer all manner of excuse why there was no blog post this morning.
None would matter.
The true story is the blooger interface on the smartphone has me baffled.
I'd have scheduled a post had I known I wouldn't be home.
yes, it seems so

It's

The seed of a blog post was planted sometime at the end of last January.
I was at a conference with a bunch of folks with first names only.
One of the speakers explained to us how his parents had really messed him up.

It seemed his father was a Swedish Lutheran Republican.
His mother was an Irish Catholic Democrat.

I wish someone had pointed out sooner that it was my background also.
It wouldn't have changed anything, but at least I could've used it as an excuse.

I will digress momentarily (and maybe never return to the topic) to explain that MY father was Irish Catholic, but I never knew him.
It was Dad (my stepfather) who was the first generation, born here, "Ya, sure, yumpin' yiminy," Swede.
Only he was well edumicated with a degree in Foreign Trade.

He was really good at trading.
It seems if you needed something, he knew a guy, or he could find someone who knew a guy.

We had frozen food coming out our ears.

See!
I told you we'd not get back on topic.
It's probably just as well.
I don't play well when talking about myself.

So, you see, the seed did not germinate.
Except maybe to explain the shoes.

not the same conference
Now there are green shoelaces to match.

Escorts

Nope, not about those escorts.
It's about the greyhounds of the sea.

The video takes some time, so allow for that.

I was reminded of the subject yesterday when I read the post from where I stole this cartoon.

You can read that post here.

It's time

Yeah . . .   I know it isn't Halloween yet, or even Veterans Day.

But there's way too much evidence of the commercialization of another holiday already in evidence.
Thankfully, we are hearing of movement by some retailers to scale back the theft of family time from their employees on Thanksgiving.

This is not a weather report

It's really not much of anything but a picture . . .
. . . specifically from four years ago.

. . . out my front door

Early morning, but wouldn't it be eerie to see that on Halloween night?

Monday update

Maybe the tech problems are behind me?
Then again they could be lurking nearby.
That remains to be seen.

The real problem is . . .

Oh, wait!
Not that kind of cell or block.

It's about brain cells.
And also the input from too many sources such that it's difficult to concentrate on any one thing.

Anyway it's the blog that suffers.
I hardly care.

I have to tell you the weather this weekend was atrocious.
Lots of wind and rain from three separate storms.
In the midst of that it was "wheelie bin" day.
It will probably be next Friday before I find all of the blown in trash.

Technical difficulties

...and impatience interfere with the production of this blog.

The PC  is acting up.
The smartphone is uncooperative.
I hate trying to post from the tablet.
Don’t ask about the laptop.

We been slacking (a kind of a Monday update)

There's a reason . . .   several reasons.
On of them was last night.
Lions Club was a special meeting.
The District Governor visited our club.
That's an annual thing.
What makes it special is we have dinner when the Governor visits.
We have to find a place.
Then we have to either purchase meals or cook it ourselves.
We chose, once again, to cook it ourselves.
So I have been doing a little bit of preparation for the event.
Yesterday, I couldn't fit any more food in my fridge.

Meanwhile on Saturday . . .
(yeah, I finally did something with the pictures I took)
Big Brother had a football (soccer) game.

Li'l Teeny dresses the part

Mom coaches

Big Brother pays attention   . . . sometimes!
He did get an assist.

Seems like there's little time for the blog.
Worse (or better, as the case may be) I'm not nearly as worried about it as in the past.
yeah, Monday on a Wednesday

Monday update

It is going to be brief.
I was away all weekend and now Sebastian is demanding a full share of attention this morning.
. . . as in he won't let me alone.

Besides, I have a full schedule through tomorrow, doing whatever it is I do.
Maybe Wednesday there'll be a Monday update.

Happy Thanksgiving to Canada!!!
there's something in the air

l have no idea

Sunday afternoons I am the secretary for and lead a book study group.
We gather for an hour and a half and parse page by page, paragraph by paragraph a particular book so that we might understand it better.
Each time I have read the book I've found something that wasn't there before.

Why I volunteered to lead this group is beyond me, other than I got a lot from participating in the group.
So I guess I feel it is important for others, who've not yet had a chance, to benefit from the study.

Why am I telling you this?
If you read the title to the post, you know.
anyone know a squiggle?

Where has my attention gone?

I think I started posting photos and a video of creatures from the zoo in Omaha.
There are really some great exhibits there.
It's a fantastic zoo.

It's just that I am way too easily distracted lately.
The weather hasn't helped.
It's turned to those really cool nights and relatively warm days.

Now that school's back in full swing the kids have lots of activities.
I have grandchildren who are participating in said activities.
Regrettably, only one lives really close.
The nearest others are some three hours away.

Were kids activities ever so organized when I was a kid.
It seemed like my grandparents could visit just about any time.
When we played, we didn't need all of the adult involvement there is today.
We didn't have to go out and sell candy bars or solicit donations o support out games.

I would suggest that it be investigated as to where all of the money goes.
But that doesn't seem prudent because the folks who investigate all seem like crooks and spend way too much investigating.
It would be a lot less expensive if the organizers let the kids win or lose and didn't give everyone a trophy.

Anyway, I'm off to watch a soccer game.
I'd call it football like the rest of the World does, but one of the others in playing football that isn't soccer and I don't want to confuse any more folks than I already have.
no, this doesn't answer the question posed

So, there I was*
Wracking my brain . . .   what do I post that is positive?

Duh!

It's an even numbered year.
I totally overlooked it until this morning.

If further hints are needed . . .

My only regret is that I missed the last four innings of that one.

Who's confused?

Moi?
I completely forgot what day of the week it is.

I'm going to blame it on not having to "punch a clock" any more.
(here's where I should also mention that I haven't had to clock in anywhere for over 15 years)

Anyway, if I weren't gloating over the fact that I am relatively free to do what I wish on any day of the week, I would be looking forward to only two more work days this week.
Further, if I worked for the "right" employer, I could be looking forward to a three-day weekend because Columbus got lost.

What brings this all to mind are those folks out there who are already scheming on that major holiday where everyone riots on the day after Thanksgiving.
Please folks, I urge you all to hold off until we've taken care of those holidays that fall during the next two months.

Just a reminder . . .

. . . along with a number of others before that.

Late, late, late....

...and not much to say, either.

Had a follow up to my last doctors appointment.
There is nothing to say other than it's all good.
I had nothing to complain about.
They had nothing to warn me about.

It immediately made me think of my son in law.
