Tomorrow morning

.
8:00 AM (UTC+8) The 2010 Tournament of Roses Parade at Pasadena, California

I liked this video best, and not just because we were there.
HGTV broadcasts without commercial interruption. The Lions Float is the third one this year.

Addendum

.
Today is shared:
National Bicarbonate of Soda Day [check the list] way down under food holidays in December
Festival of Enormous Changes at the Last Minute [that's on this list]
I think we'll just bypass tomorrow

.

I don't think I wanna fly anywhere any more

.
No, it isn't because I don't feel safe. It is more about all the hoops that an airline passenger has to jump through just to get from point A to point B. . . and that's before even reaching the departure gate. Read Kevin Underhill's post and the link on the post to Christopher Hitchens' article at Slate.com.
I sure don't pretend to have any solutions, but the folks who should certainly haven't come up with anything practical. They seem to be under the impression that the more they increase passenger anxiety, the better off we are.
no, Brian, I am not
suffering from guilt- or
pain-induced insomnia...
I'm not even awake

I wonder

.
Do the Brits have one of these over on their side?

Are we gonna find one for crossing the Pacific?
sure beats dealing
with airport security

Remodeling

.
I believe it was mentioned that there is under some consideration a plan to make some changes to the sidebar on this blog. Just the fact that I vaguely remember it must mean something. I probably will do something about it sometime.
this is where Brian might

I almost forgot

.
I almost forgot to post here today. Wouldn't that be a calamity?
I thought about posting some pictures, but they'd've looked just about like the ones in this post.
Now maybe I will just do a little rearranging on the sidebar. That way I can stay inside.
isn't it grand to be
able to figure out how
to use two apostrophes
in one contraction?

This quote...

.
...is from Peter de Vries, but it could be the motto for a friend of mine:

"Everybody hates me because I'm so universally liked."

he'll know who he is
if he ever reads this

Two photos

.
I found both of these posted on separate blogs this week.

One purports to be a nature photograph, the other comments on the nature of the immediate surroundings [as in mud] as it relates the walking of a dog.
maybe I have too
much free time?

I saw a quote

.
The Brighton Pensioner has an automatic quote generator at one of his many blogs. I enjoy reading them and stealing one occasionally if it suits my needs. You can ask why I don't just put one of those gadgets on my blog. I would just tell you that it's easier to let someone else do it. Besides, I am more apt to read it if someone else has it.
Anyway...
This morning the quote is from Arnold Lobel:
"Books to the ceiling,/ Books to the sky,/ My pile of books is a mile high./ How I love them! How I need them!/ I'll have a long beard by the time I read them."
My story is just a little reversed. I don't stack them unless I have already read them and then only if I feel they are worth rereading.
so it's not quite a mile high
...no, I have no intention of reqrowing it

About yesterday

.
I started out with three appointments. One was postponed until the rains stop because it has to do with repairs to the valves that burst during the freeze last week. Another was a board meeting that happens on the second Monday of every month and it was relatively routine, other than we had to deal with some frozen pipes that ultimately caused some damage at the senior center. The third proved most interesting... and complicated. It was with the surgeon who's doing the implants to anchor my new teeth. As it turned out he was running behind schedule... like about 30 minutes or more. So I had a choice to wait and possibly be late for the board meeting or I could be briefed by his treatment coordinator, who proved quite capable of explaining the various options available to me. Oh, yeah, and how much it is going to set me back financially for their part of the treatment. She could tell me what my own dentist's fees are or what the lab costs will be. She did tell me, though, that they could do it before the end of the year.
So after getting over the sticker shock, I called my dentist's office for an appointment for two reasons. First, I needed another adjustment to my appliance. Secondly, I wanted to coordinate the details between the two offices. Imagine my surprise when I was told I could come in at 2pm. Too bad I had that darn board meeting. I had to settle for a 9:30am appointment this morning. My dentist took charge immediately and did some trim work on the upper, which was causing some minor discomfort. Then we discussed the options which had been presented by the surgeon and she offered still another which appealed to me.
Anyway, the outcome is that next Monday morning [that would be the Winter Solstice], before the Sun rises, I will find myself planted in a dental chair, under the influence of muscle relaxants, with somebody's hands in my mouth... and just in time for Christmas, too.
Please, don't feel bad that I won't be feasting like others on Christmas because with my mouth in it's current state I would be feasting much anyway. The one big plus is that I have an excuse to eat ice cream three times a day... or more.
that almost makes it worth it

.

Oh dear!

.
How did I let my schedule get so full?
Let me re-word that.
How did I let the three appointments I have this week all happen between 10am and 2pm today?
this never would
have happened
if I hadn't worn
out my Palm Pilot

A little excitement

.

Photo from the Redding Record Searchlight courtesy of Dan Warner

I heard the sirens yesterday, but figured that it was just another medical emergency call... there seems to be at least one a day in this neighborhood. Instead, it was a house just around the corner that we pass almost every time we leave.
Fortunately nobody was injured but it looks like the contents were a total loss.

Yeah, I'm gonna fix it

.
I know that the edge of the thing over on the left is cut off. As soon as I finish a couple of other things I will be adjusting the size so that it fits.

Wait a sec... I have another idea!!!

How's that?

yeah,
it doesn't
do anything
for me either

Sorry I missed it

According to the little list I refer to, yesterday was National Pastry Day.
I could have had a bacon pastry.
or an apple fritter would have been nice

What'll we celebrate today?

.
Well, yesterday we had a choice, either Gazpacho Day or National Mitten Tree Day.
If we were Dutch we could have celebrated Sinterklaas.

Today we get National Cotton Candy Day. [fairy floss?]

wait 'til tomorrow!!!

We're saving the bacon for later ...Oh, and I have some more quotes.

I decided to go with a quote...

"Saying what we think gives us a wider conversational range than saying what we know."
~ Cullen Hightower

...Because

Today is:
Wear Brown Shoes Day
does it matter?

Guess what I found

-
Yep! It was another bacon entry. But it seems like maybe it's too soon, particularly since we went so long without any... oh, and it's a bit of a stretch anyway.
it's not really about food

Wednesday, December 2, 2009

Today is...

.
National Fritters Day

Apple Fritter

Malaysian Roadside Fritters
I have no idea
