So…

In the update I didn’t post, I forgot to mention that the renewal date for my drivers license was rearing its ugly presence.

I followed the instructions the DMV sent me; took their drivers course, along with the short quizzes; discovered how to make an appointment, which was an age requirement; and drove down there last Monday morning.

I am sure glad I was able to schedule the appointment. I only had to wait in line for twenty minutes to be referred to a testing window. Then I only had to wait another twenty, or so, minutes to see a clerk, who verified the information submitted online,  gave me a vision test, and referred me to another window where I waited about another ten minutes to have my photo taken.

I was then given a piece of paper that extended my current license for an extra month.

all that for $45

I forgot

 . . . I was doing updates.
I could almost forget I even had surgery.
There is an occasional twinge; a little swelling; and a kind of lump where the surgeon cut, poked, and shoved stuff around.
MB reminded me this morning that tomorrow ends my two weeks restriction for lifting . . .    not that I don’t have to continue to be careful.
All in all, this has gone pretty well.
I still don’t recommend it.

Monday update

Four days since surgery.
It's slowed me down some.
But, then it's really hard to tell because slower is a relative thing.
It hasn't been nearly as bad as I had expected.
I won't even resent it not meeting my expectations.
The only person who has asked me about pain was a nurse on Saturday, who called to see how I was doing.
I told her I was sore, but really wasn't in pain.
So far, so good.
BTW - I don't recommend any kind of surgery.

Just remembering

63 years ago today I joined the Navy.

There are some pictures, but imagine a 17 year old just out of High School on a train with 13 others headed to San Diego for Boot Camp.

Yeah, you really don’t need pictures.

Monday update on a Friday

Yesterday there was a surgical procedure that I put off far too long, and then delayed so we could travel for ten weeks.

It went well.
The surgical team was fantastic.
I won’t be doing any heavy lifting for awhile.

You might ask why the procedure was delayed.
The truth is I have had this done before, just on the other (left) of my body.
It was about 30 years ago.
Didn’t like it.
So far it isn’t as bad as I remember.

Someone asked me about the prognosis.
I’m fairly certain that I wouldn’t have been allowed to come home if it wasn’t good.

The G.O.A.T.

The first time I saw him play was the old Seals Stadium at 16th and Bryant. I was 15. I had missed an opportunity the previous year to see him play at the Polo Grounds. Anyway, Willie was about as dynamic as any player I have ever seen. You could tell by watching that he was enjoying himself.

Rest in peace Willie Mays.

Funny thing

The folks in the southwest of the country are a little proud.

You can’t get much further away from Dublin.

So now what

MB and I are home again.
There are no photos.
We may venture out a couple of more times this year, but not far and nor for a long period.
It’s going to take a little time to catch up on the mail.
