If I had to pick a theme song

Obviously not all of the words fit.

But, I always have liked this song... and the musical... even saw it live with Mary Martin and Cyril Richard in the lead roles before it was ever on TV.

I like it so much we'll play it again.

seriously,
ask GS

  1. I remember watching Mary Martin play Peter Pan on TV when I was a kid. So much magic pouring through our black and white Zenith.

    1. My brother and I used paper route earnings to join our folks at the Curran Theater in SF. The next year we bought season tickets and brcame regular theater goers.
I do remember Peter Pan and Annie Get Your Gun being on TV. But we weren't allowed to watch TV on school nights.
Isn't it ironic that we could go to The City for a whole evening to watch a musical but could se one in the living room?

  2. One of my earliest memories is of watching Peter Pan on TV with My Mom. It must have been one of the times they re-ran it. I was four and scared witless of the crocodile that had eaten Captain Hook's hand.

By the way, great rock version of that song was done by a local Boston band called The Fools (who should have been huge nationally, but somehow fell through the cracks - which would be another great name for a band, by the way.)

    1. I see <a href="http://thesurlywriter.blogspot.com/2012/09/condensed-retrospect.html'>Michelle</a> has joined the trend to post a brief synopsis a lifetime. I may just have to try one, too... now that I have the music.

BTW - the version by <i>The Fools</i> made the short list (probably as much because of the band name as for any other reason).

  3. I'm reminded of the quote (from whom escapes me): "Growing OLD is mandatory, growing UP is not."

    1. If it's any consolation, that's not the exact quote. So we can officially attribute it to you.

I did find two attributions, Chili Davis and Bob Monkhouse, for "Growing OLD is mandatory, growing UP is optional." Which I guess is close enough for government work.
