So now what

MB and I are home again.
There are no photos.
We may venture out a couple of more times this year, but not far and nor for a long period.
It’s going to take a little time to catch up on the mail.

I need to rethink this scenario

I currently have four five six books I am reading, not counting the Bible.
There are three more on the shelf and one on hold at the library.
I'm not sure how I let myself get into this situation.
None of them bore me as much as Atlas Shrugged.

Square one

I originally started this blog because I knew some others who were blogging, and because I thought it would be a good way to keep family and friends apprised of some physical issues I was having at the time.
That was in June of 2008.
None of those folks are blogging now and I am well beyond those physical issues, not that there aren't some lingering effects, about which I sometimes grouse.

Today there are different physical issues.
I'm not complaining.
In fact I'm rather grateful that they're only minor and require no prescriptive medication   . . . so far.

So . . .   square one is where it all started.

I'm have some difficulty with my left ear.
It's been misbehaving since the first crossing of the Rockies back in August.
I saw my Dr. and was referred to the Audiologist, who's given me some exercises to perform to see if it improves the situation, which is more of an inconvenience than a concern.

Another untitled post

Well, I'd posted a video.
Obviously, there's a corruption.
Too bad . . .   it was funny.

Really disliking the new Blogger interface.

If you live in California

This photo is only representative of what we're seeing today.

If you live in California, just remember to...
stay inside (because of poor air quality),
turn your A/C on (because of the heat),
turn off the A/C (because you might lose electricity because of rolling blackouts),
get outside (because of COVID),
stay home (because of COVID),
don't use a n95 mask (because medical workers need them),
use an n95 mask (for the smoke - those other masks aren't safe for smoke),
don't isolate yourself (because of mental health),
isolate yourself (because of COVID),
only eat outside at restaurants (because of COVID),
don't eat outside (because of poor air quality),
but support local restaurants (they provide jobs),
watch out for wind (slight wind causes fires in California now),
and hope there's wind (California has shut down power plants, so we need wind for electricity)so you can have A/C
because you're staying inside due to the smoke (don't use the A/C though because then there may be no power if there's not enough wind [yes, the wind that causes fires] ).
You know what, just watch Netflix (because you're staying home),
but screen time will cause depression so don't watch too much Netflix (it also degrades your sleep just like sleeping without A/C).
Got it?
And hey, enjoy yourself. Life is short. (But don't enjoy yourself with friends, at church, at school, at work, [but Walmart is open and has electricity and A/C, so go there {but Walmart exploits workers and supports globalism and Communist government slave labor in camps, so don't go to Walmart}] ).
(Yes that IS a paranthetical statement inside a parenthetical statement inside a parenthetical statement - thanks 2020, this is what we've come to).
It's not easy being a Californian.

Yeah, the orange dot is the Sun.
I took that picture on Thursday at 6:15pm

BTW - the Sun photo is the only original content in this post

Monday update

From a fb post six years ago today.
“There are emotions and attitudes that transcend language“
Some might remember those days.

Anniversaries, birthdays, and the like

Somebody once said, "I'll take all the birthdays I can get!"
She left us five years ago, tomorrow.
I just snagged another one of those birthdays today.
I'm grateful.

An acquaintance from the blogosphere lost his betrothed to an awful accident on Monday.
He'd only just begun to introduce her to us, the voyeurs of the blogosphere, recently.
She had family.
I feel badly for her children . . .   they're young.
I'm sad they have this for an anniversary.

Things happen.
We get to participate.

Eleven years ago . . .

I posted about having a couple of milestones (as in two) coming up.
I was wrong.
It's a few milestones . . .   and here they come again.
Tomorrow is the first.
So come back and read about it.
I promise not to take up too much of your time.

The other two are later this month.
I will try to remember to post about them, too.
It may slip my mind, though.
MB and I are making a jailbreak, flying to Wisconsin.
The youngest granddaughter there is being confirmed on Sunday.
This trip may prove to be our only vacation getaway this year.
Five other trips of varying length have been canceled.

I looked

Hoping to find something of interest I scanned a number of previous posts from June 14.
I didn't find anything.
I mean, there were posts.
I just wasn't thrilled with any.

Be nice

The other day I scanned the stat page for this blog.
It's not how many views it gets so much as what posts are being viewed.
What really blows me away is when I look at some of those posts and ask myself, "Did you write that?"

I was going to say I've become a stoic.
Then I looked at the description of stoic.
Let's just say I have become much less animated and vocal.
I'll pick the topics I want to write about.
Then I will think, "Do I really want to defend that?"
I have better things to do than pick fights, even little ones.

I'm pretty sure my motto today is:
Would you rather be right . . .
. . . or be happy?

Oh, that I didn't think of this

I know a guy whose attitude would fit this to a tee.

Somebody remind me

I commented over at the Sarge's place earlier.
Then thought, "I could write a post about that."
Now it's too late to do it today.
Maybe tomorrow (POCIR).

Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear

I wish they'd fix it

.
This having to surf through the blogosphere because the widget on the side isn't updating to all of the latest posts is really bugging me.
That, and seeing that practically everyone else writes in a much more satisfactory manner than I. I think I have determined what my problem is. I can't hold a thought long enough to develop it. Although I don't Twitter, my mind does. Hence most of my posts are relatively brief...
which may be a good thing?

.

  1. In many cases brevity is good, - - - often better, and most of the time best!

Yeah . . . right!

I have, out of curiosity, been periodically reading older posts on this blog.
Today I found one that set up some rules for the blogs (yep, there's another*).
It appears I am a lousy rule follower.

Day five

It seems like there are more things to do than days available to us.
It also seems we are eating way more meals than usual.
Go figure.
Life's short.

I can't remember what we did the day before yesterday.
Oh, well. . .

Yesterday was crammed with action.

It has started with a walk on the beach each morning.
We are dedicating the walks to the me ory of a really good friend who recently died from Parkinson's disease.
There is a Lions sponsored fundraising walk today which will be unable to attend.

This tree is just at the entry to the beach.
There are all manner of objects to photograph on the beach.

. . . like the second turtle in three days, so cool.

We rested a few moments before the return trip.
The walks are not without the occasional mishap.

Yep, it hurts a little.

Then it was a quick shower and lunch before a trip Upcountry [what they call the area between the beach where we are and the Haleakala National Park].

MB is making new friends before we sample some goat cheese and some chocolate truffles.

We also met one of the friendliest cats ever.

The toe wasn't any better at the end of the day.

So . . . where were we?

Yeah, I know.
I'm supposed to be responding countering following up on MB's guest post from last week [yeah, yeah, Wednesday   . . . better late than never, eh?].
Well, I'm not so good at assignments.
What's amazing is that I actually got our tax stuff to the tax guy already this year.
That involved a drive to the ol' homestead up north and back.
Then we went to see granddaughter, the Bug, perform in a youth production of the Music Man.
Then there was a Lions district meeting up in Sutter, right at the base of the Sutter Buttes.

source: Facebook
Then a potluck birthday dinner.
These events were all interspersed among a whole bunch of other things we do regularly.

Like, for example, tomorrow night is our regular Tuesday night volunteering at the Winter Sanctuary.
We're night captains in charge of intake, transport, check-in, meal service, and instruction to to the overnight team for the sheltering of the homeless clients at the local church of the week.
It seems like there's always something.

Then, of course, there's the weather.
It's raining again.
That's what it is supposed to do this time of year.
It just seems unusual because there was a long dry spell from about 2013 to 2016 and then again last year.

The ol' homestead had snow last storm.
A lot of snow.
They were without electricity for about a week and the apricot tree went down from the weight of the snow.

So now were at the start of another week.
We're preparing for a visit from MB's niece and family from Arizona [I know, right?].

After all this time I still haven't determined what the theme of this blog is.
I really don't do cute, except when posting granddaughter pics   . . . and sometimes cat pics.
Travel posts are iffy because of tech issues.
Politics are taboo here.
So you're stuck with whatever floats through that space between my ears provided it ever makes it out of there and onto the blog.

What's goin' on

The next few days . . .   or weeks may not find many posts.
That is unless I can connect to wifi.
Even then there might not be much to read other than the names of towns and rest stops.

The theme music for tomorrow is By the Time I get to Phoenix.
we'll see
