Friday the 13th came on a Wednesday this month
MISSION STATEMENT:
What was here yesterday probably has no bearing on what is here today.
What you see today will have no bearing on what you see here tomorrow
...maybe
What you see today will have no bearing on what you see here tomorrow

Frustration
Why does the media and, then in turn, the clueless public on social media seem to believe information is being withheld as a part of a cover-up on the part of the Navy regarding the collision between the USS Fitzgerald and the container ship?
It's not a cover up.
Of course there is information that isn't being made available. It has been locked away where nobody can tamper with it.
That's standard procedure for a collision at sea, even a minor [my word] one that only involves dents and scratched paint.
Sailors are even segregated so they may not discuss the incident until the inquiry is complete.
I know one thing for sure.
Those who were involved would like very much for the information to get out so they can put the incident behind them (DAMHIK).
Something else I know is that it is surprising that something like this has happened in that vicinity before.
Those are extremely crowded waterways with all manner of watercraft of all sizes and shapes traveling in all directions at any time of day or night (DAMHIK).
There was obviously an error on someone's part . . . maybe even more than one someone.
Don't judge until you know all of the facts and can apply personal knowledge or expertise to those facts.
Then I saw this . . .

I'm gonna finish it
Go Here first if you haven't already read the start.
I was reminded, rather than inspired, to write this post.
You will note that almost all of the important stuff has been plagiarized, as I haven't had a profound thought since I stopped drinking in 2002.
35. Duchaarm’s Axiom: If one views his problems closely enough, he will recognize himself as part of the problem.
36. Einstein’s Equation: If A is success in life, then A=X+Y=Z. X is work, Y is play and Z is keeping your mouth shut.
37. Durant’s Discovery: One of the lessons of history is that nothing is often a good thing to do, and always a clever thing to say.
38. Courtois’ Rule: If people listened to themselves more often, they would talk less.
39. 1st Rule of Negative Anticipation: You can save yourself a lot of needless worry if you don’t burn your bridges until you come to them.

56. Goodman’s law of responsibility: You can’t stick your nose in without sticking you neck out.
57. Van Herpen’s Law: The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.
58. Hlade’s Law: If you have a difficult task give it to a lazy man- he will find an easier way to do it.
59. Gate’s Law: The only important information in a hierarchy is who knows what.
60. Hutchin’s Law: You can’t outtalk a man who knows what he is talking about.

82. Roger’s 3rd Law: If you are riding ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it’s still there.
83. Roger’s 4th Law: If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
84. Roger’s 5th Law: Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.

Somebody else started this
I will warn you now that this post will take some time to wrap up.
Some years ago I attended a series of leadership seminars . . .Heck, I still attend them, but more for the fellowship than to learn anything new.
Someone might expect me to step up and lead.
One of those seminars was entitled Leadership - A La Murphy.
I can take no credit for anything that follows, other than remembering where my notes are [they gave us a CD].
I make every effort to complete this by tomorrow.
Murphy’s laws were designed as a sort of emotional crutch to help people understand how a carefully planned and executed event could fall totally apart. It wasn’t because of anything they did or didn’t do. It was just because of Murphy’s law. Murphy’s law started out as “anything that can possibly go wrong will.” This was later expanded a couple of times to include “at the worst possible moment and in the sequence of events that will do the most damage.” It soon became obvious that no single law could explain away all of life’s frustrations, so other laws were put forth to add to the armor. Eventually thousands of laws were recorded to turn what was a crutch into emotional Kung Foo, not only a defense for explaining life’s little failures, but providing offensive weaponry to ward off the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune at their source. These new laws run from the sublime to the ridiculous, from Ato Z. From Anderson’s Axiom: “You are only young once, but you can be immature forever”, to Zappa’s Law: “There is nothing wrong with sex on television as long as you don’t fall off.”
Not all the laws will mean something to everyone. Not now anyway. But life brings new challenges and new understanding. This second stage will come sometime in the future when you sit up in the middle of the night and say, “that’s what he meant!” Another problem solved thanks to Murphy’s laws.
NEGATIVES - don’t do these.
1. Evan’s Law: Once you give up integrity, the rest is easy.
2. Kenyon’s Law: Once you have learned how to fake sincerity you have make it.
3. Spark’s 4th Rule: Don’t engage in arguments, but if concerned, ask an irrelevant question and lean back with a satisfied grin while your opponent tries to figure out what’s going on. Then quickly change the subject.
4. Goodman’s Restatement of Spark’s 4th Rule: If you can’t convince them, confuse them.
5. Goodman’s Restatement of Spark’s 4th Rule: If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle with with B.S.
6. Finagle’s 8th Rule: Teamwork is essential. It allows you to blame someone else.
7. Green’s Law of Debate: Anything is possible if you don’t know what you are talking about.
8. Fox on Power: Arrogance is too often the companion of excellence.
REACTIVE - Use these to feel better.
9. The 5th Rule: You have taken yourself too seriously.
10. Dykstra’s Law: Everyone is somebody else’s weirdo.
11. Hanlon’s Razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
12. Harrison’s Postulate: For every action there is an equal and opposing criticism.
13. Evan’s and Bjorn’s Law: No matter what goes wrong there is always someone who knew it would.
14. Goulu’s Law: Acarelessly planned project takes three times longer to complete than expected; a carefully planned project takes only twice as long.
15. Jenkinson’s Law: It won’t work.
16. Goodman’s Response to Jenkinson’s Law: If we spent as much time doing it as we did saying it couldn’t be done, it would be.
17. Zymurgy’s Law of Volunteer Labor: People are always available to work in the past tense.
18. Workman’s Dilemma:
A. No matter how much you do, you’ll never do enough.
B. What you didn’t do is always more important than what you did do.
19. Clark’s Law of Revolutionary Ideas: Every revolutionary idea evokes three stages of reaction:
1. It is impossible. Don’t waste my time.
2. It is possible, but it is not worth doing
3. I said it was a good idea all along.
20. Weiler’s Law: Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn’t have to do it himself.
21. Loftus’ 5th Law: Some people manage by the book even though they don’t know who wrote the book or even what book.
22.Voltaire’s Law: There is nothing more respectable than an ancient evil.
23. Edelstein’s Advise: Don’t worry over what other people are thinking about you. They’re too busy worrying over what you are thinking about them.
24. The Roman Rule: The one who says it cannot be done should never interrupt the one who is doing it.
25. Lowe’s Law: Success always occurs in private, and failure in full public view.
26. Felson’s Law: To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.
27.1st Rule of Acting: Whatever happens, look as if it were intended.
28. Oliver’s Law: Experience is something you don’t get until just after you need it.
29. Oppenheimer’s Law: There is no such thing as instant experience.
30. Gabirol’s Observation: The wise are pleased when they discover truth, fools when the discover falsehood.

We get emails
I have decided to help out a friend of mine.
We went to college many, many years ago,
Just the other day he sent me an email touting some shoes.
This was the pic he sent along with it.
I'm helping him by adjusting the photo to concentrate on the subject matter.
I am certain he and others will appreciate it.
Spectator shoes?

Metaphor for emotions
Nothing much new from the hospital...
...but I do have an observation.
Maybe it's more of an inquiry.
Does anyone remember what a rheostat is?
(that's not my question)
It's what we used to control the volume on our superhetrodyne receivers.
(yeah. . . radios)
Anyhow, many of those volume controls are actually numbered.
Sometimes they are accompanied by another control.
You may understand where I'm going with this?
People!
There are those who control their emotions much like the numbered knob above controls volume, very seldom ever reaching the highest output.
Sometimes they can be quite frustrating because they may give the impression they don't understand the severity of a situation.
(don't bet on it)
Then there are those who set the volume control at ten and just turn emotions on and off.
They're most likely the ones who believe in the squeaky wheels program.
That's pretty reckless.
They will get the oil.
Unfortunately, they sometimes find later that graphite would've been a far superior solution, but by insisting on immediate action other options were not explored and became moot.
It has been observed that those of the on/off variety are also usually the center of the Universe.
The only time it may be appropriate is when watching a favorite team at a sporting event.
(notice I didn't say in the living room)
Recent [and not so recent] events have called the above to my attention.
I am a firm believer in holding something in reserve [except when it comes to the fuel tank in my car
that's created an incident or two or more where the on/off variety has reared it's ugly head].

Late again
It's not like I wasn't up and about.
It's more like there are more important things than the blog.
Things I'd never learn if I didn't look on f/b [yeah. . . I post, too. But that's another category].
Other stuff:
And for everyone else. . .

So. . . I guess it's time
Probably since the beginning of this blog I have complained, if not incessantly, annually about how the NBA* season is too long.
Suddenly I find one of my favorite sports teams actually participating in the finals for the league championship.
I guess I may be a bit of a hypocrite.
I have to admit that I have actually watched some [over 90%] of the games and I do feel a bit guilty . . .not for ranting about the length of the season, for enjoying the games I've watched.
I will most likely watch much of the finals, too, while damning the league for stretching the season to the middle of June.
(Yeah . . .and I've argued that the NHL** season's too long, too.
But I don't have a dog in that hunt.)
*National Basketball Association
**National Hockey League [which begs another question]

it's been 40 years since they last participated
they won it all in 1975

It may not look like much
I shot this on my way over to the Senior Center at 9:00 yesterday morning.
Eventually there was no blue left in the sky.
It finally rained a little early this morning.
Then this arrived in the Inbox:
A guy texts his neighbor friend:
Dear Keith : I'm sorry. I've been riddled with guilt and I have to confess.
I have been helping myself to your wife when you're not around, probably more than you.
without a word, shoots his wife.I know it's no excuse, but I don't get it at home. I can't live with the guilt any longer.
I hope you'll accept my sincerest apology. It won't happen again.
The neighbor, feeling outrage and betrayed, grabs his gun, goes into the bedroom and
Moments later the guy gets a second text:
Damn, found a spelling error, I really should use spell check! That should be "wifi"... Sorry!

We're gonna stalk that h'bird
So. . . the camera is withing reach.
I even made it a point to shoot some more pics of the plants.
I am guessing he will return and that I will have an opportunity to get his picture.
It is obvious there will be more blooms . . .unless something gross happens.
Now it's time to water the tomato plant and send the following to my daughter.
Happy Birthday, Sweetheart.

Not feeling it
The Muse is around here.
There are some ideas floating around.
But I'm seeking something whimsical and that's just not working at all.
Meanwhile, before anyone thinks I'm bummed about the breakfast on Sunday, I'm not.
The event was quite successful.
I routinely is.
The issue was about how some (one in particular) persons dealt with the fact that there were two new ladies waiting tables.
(At this point I will point out there are only two persons waiting tables.
We had two new ones because the regular wait staff were both on a vacation trip they'd originally planned for last September)
The actions of the offending party didn't particularly effect the wait staff.
However, one of the coffee servers found it necessary to vacate the premises until after the offending party left.
The coffee server was absolutely livid because of the language and attitude of the offensive customer.
That kind of stuff kind of trickles down to the rest of the volunteers . . .except for, maybe, the dishwashers.
I'm pretty sure I know how I'd have reacted had I been involved.
Whimsy is better.

What would be appropriate today?
I thought about some kind of hoax post.
Instead I will relate a brief tale about a missed opportunity.
I do the bookkeeping and bank deposits for the Frontier Senior Center because somehow I was talked into being the Treasurer.
Usually I do it on Wednesdays, but, because yesterday was the last day of the month, I did it a day early.
That messed up my chance for a really evil April Fools prank.
Among the bills in the deposit were a couple of 50 dollar bills and three 100 dollar bills.
(That was really unusual because most of the time it it ones and fives.)
Had I waited until today, I could have seriously shaken up things at the center by reporting back that the fifties and hundreds were fakes.

The other day I posted a map based on data regarding eating habits preferences with respect tp restaurants in the various states.
I am only guessing, but my thoughts are there was only one person collecting the data and they were on some kind of deadline.
Does anyone else think maybe some of the information on that map is based on old episodes of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, aka Triple D?
Those not based on that were probably selected by a blindfolded monkey throwing darts at a World map.
Just about everything I want to do this week has been on hold.
I received a summons for Jury Duty.
I have to keep checking back until my group is released.
This is the third time in the last year I've been 'selected.'
I lost count of how many times I have been summoned.
I have actually been empaneled three times and seen one entire trial.
My former employer suggested I was volunteering for Jury Duty to get out of work.
I asked him if he'd ever been summoned or served on a jury.
He said, "No!"
I told him he should volunteer, so he'd know how ridiculous his suggestion was.
I saved the last summons from four months ago.
They have my name just slightly different from the current summons.
So. . . obviously I am in the database more than once.
I could call them and be left on hold, but I decided to report and confront them in person with both summonses.
That will remove the opportunity for them to deny.
Of course, if I don't actually have to report that opportunity will be moot.
What's most irksome, to me, is there are any number of folks who, in all the time I have known them, have never been summoned.
PHG has a job!
It's part time, 25 hours a week.
That's all I can say right now.
But she's amped.
This isall wrong so not right. . .
I've been to Ceres.
It looks nothing like that.
Okay. . . so as long as we're screwing around.
Go see this.
It has a warning.
Ignore it. . . unless you're in school.
I have some serious posts rampaging around in my skull.
Whenever I sort them out they'll show up here.
Meanwhile I'm thinking about that vacation coming up.
Oh, yeah. . . and there's a conference this weekend starting at 2:00pm Friday. . .
note: since it is fairly obvious, I have decided I will no longer actually give the name to untitled posts. . .
. . .in fact I may stop titling posts altogether or maybe not
